The UK register, mapped: 40,520 estate and letting agencies, 218 territories
We ran the UK register this week: Companies House Advanced Search, SIC code 68310, active companies only. The pull returned 40,520 estate and letting agencies, 40,508 carrying a usable postcode; mapped to counties and unitary authorities they fall into 218 territories. Ireland came first for us, the UK is the second market, and the register here behaves nothing like the Irish one.
The register, in numbers
England holds 37,209 of those agencies, Scotland 1,551, Wales 920 and Northern Ireland 415. 1,859 active agencies sit in Camden, the largest single territory, then 1,462 in Westminster, 1,436 in Hackney and 1,241 in Islington. Beyond London the largest fields are Hertfordshire at 959, Essex at 859, Kent at 855, Birmingham at 835, Barnet at 803 and Surrey at 794.
The median territory holds 106 agencies, the number that stopped us. Half of the UK’s territories are smaller. Most of our working life sits in the big cities, where 1,859 agencies share one borough. Out here the arithmetic runs the other way: about a hundred firms split the work across most of the country, and everyone knows who is busy.
What the UK cannot tell you, and Ireland can
Estate agency is licensed in Ireland. A statutory register lists who is permitted to trade, and every map we build there starts by reading it in full. The UK licenses nothing of the kind. No equivalent list exists, so anyone selling a UK agency list without saying so is selling a guess with a row count on it.
So the UK map starts at Companies House, with the membership and redress bodies as the cross-check now being harvested: Propertymark, The Property Ombudsman, the Property Redress Scheme and RICS. A different source carries different limits, and every UK map prints that on its face. The counts are registered companies, not branches: a firm with six offices counts once.
What a partner map contains
Referral Networks. The organisations a sale passes through in your territory, sorted into complements, sharing your customer without competing for the sale; peers; channels, businesses already selling to hundreds of local owners; and suppliers. Every entry carries a public route in.
Market Share. How many agencies share the territory, and what that does to the way you sell. A hundred firms and 1,800 firms are two different jobs.
High-Level Mapping. The whole ecosystem as one picture for a partner meeting, your agency at the centre and every named organisation a node.
Price and delivery
One report, one territory: £420, the Irish €490 converted at the ECB rate of 0.86045 GBP per euro on 25 September 2026. €490 stays the Irish price, so both markets are quoted on one basis. Delivery runs about five working days from the point you confirm the territory.
The UK Estate Agency Partner Map page sets out what is in each report if you want to see the shape of one before ordering, and the Irish worked example, Sligo and Leitrim, is free to read in full.
Rennwick maps property markets from public registers: licence registers, company registers, price registers and tender files. Ireland came first, the UK now, and the same build runs on request for other professional-services verticals.
Name the territory you want and we will send its register count before you commit to anything: contact Rennwick.
